About the school
Polish Supplementary School named Maria Konopnicka was founded in 1920 in the Greenpoint district of Brooklyn. Initially, classes were held at the Polish National House on Driggs Avenue. In 1957, the school moved to Ericsson Junior High School, and since the 1960/61 school year, classes have been held in the buildings of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish at 12 Newell Street.
Curriculum
The school offers classes in Polish language, history, geography, and singing. Students prepare for the LOTE exam. The curriculum also includes academies and entertainment events such as children's balls, visits from Santa Claus, meetings with interesting people from Poland and America, and nativity scenes at the church.
Events and cooperation
Students, teachers, and parents participate in various church events such as the Pulaski Parade and the Corpus Christi procession. The school starts and ends the school year with a Mass, emphasizing the importance of the Church in the life of the Polish community.
History
The school has been managed by many directors, including Jan Rudziński, who joined it with the Kongress Polonii Amerykańskiej (Congress of American Poles), which contributed to the development of cooperation with the Polish community.
