About the School
The Polish Supplementary School named Maria Skłodowska-Curie is a social institution located at the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Irvington, NJ. The school is registered with the Central Office of Polish Supplementary Schools in America and the Center for Development of Polish Education Abroad.
School History
The school was founded on November 7, 1969, by Ms. Izabela Sołohub. Initially, it was located in the building of the parochial school and around 200 students attended it. In 2002, the school was moved to the building of the Parish Convent at 6 Smalley Terrace.
Curriculum
The school teaches Polish language, history and geography of Poland, music, and religion in classes from preschool to eighth grade with the possibility of continuing education in high school. Education is based on the curriculum and textbooks recommended by the Central Office of Polish Supplementary Schools.
Events and Traditions
Students participate in contests and events organized by Polish diaspora organizations, continuing traditions developed over the years. The school also organizes events such as Nativity scenes, art and recitation competitions.
